The holidays are fast approaching and there are a few things I can be confident will happen every year:
My healthy diet will include a few more "cheat days"
I'll get nostalgic watching movies from my childhood
We'll reconnect with family and friends we haven't seen in a while
I love all of these things and they're part of what make the holidays a special time.
One of the questions I'm often asked in these gatherings is, "So, what have you been up to?"
"Ah, nothing much."
"Work, family, the usual."
"Same old stuff."
These tend to be my simple and safe answers to a standard small-talk question.
Simple and safe are rarely catalysts for movement though. Consider a more bold response. As we prepare for this holiday season, let's reflect upon our accomplishments and allow our loved ones to share in our joy.
What moves are you making in your business?
What project were you especially proud of working on?
What initiative are you starting?
What goal are you working on achieving?
What family memory have you recently made?
When was the last time you laughed uncontrollably with your child?
Where was the last great restaurant you visited?
What was the last intriguing book you read?
You'll quickly realize you've been up to a lot more than "nothing much".
Let's commit to sharing what we've really been up to this holiday season. By doing this, we open ourselves up to more opportunities, spark more meaningful conversation, and are able to share our joy and accomplishments with family and friends.
